HAMILTON 1 HOUSTON 2
BULLDOGS DROP FIRST GAME OF THE SERIES 2-1 TO AEROS
Friday, May 13th, 2011
Houston, TX – The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated
2-1 by the Houston Aeros on Friday night. The ‘Dogs
outshot the Aeros 39-28 but Houston goaltender Matt Hackett
stopped all but one of the shots he faced to earn the win
for the Aeros.
Houston opened the game’s scoring at 14:52 of the
first frame while on the power play. Casey Wellman collected
the puck after it took an odd bounce off the glass behind
the Bulldogs’ net. Wellman dished the puck to Chad
Rau, who one-timed a shot past Hamilton starting goaltender
Drew MacIntyre and into the net.
The Aeros took a 2-0 lead at 2:59 of the second stanza.
Jared Spurgeon fed the puck up the middle of the ice to
Jed Ortmeyer, to spring him on a breakaway. Ortmeyer skated
in all alone on MacIntyre before snapping a shot that beat
the goaltender over the glove.
The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard at 19:09 of the final
frame. Frederic St. Denis blasted a shot towards the net
that was tipped by J.T. Wyman. Houston starting goaltender
Matt Hackett made the save but the rebound bounced out
to the left side of the goaltender. Mathieu Carle whacked
the puck up and over the pad of Hackett and into the net.

Fridays game Hamilton will make a stop in Chicago to take
on the Wolves (AHL affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers). Puck-drop
will be at 8:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 26th. The Bulldogs
third game in three nights will be against the Peoria Rivermen
(AHL affiliate of the St. Louis Blues), which will take place
on Sunday, March 26th at 5:05 P.M.
Hamilton began their week
against North Division rivals the Rochester Americans.
A hard fought battle by both teams
saw the game scoreless after two frames. It wasn’t
until Andrew Conboy scored at 14:04 of the third period
that gave the contest its first goal of the game. Rochester’s
attempt to equalize was only at their demise as they surrendered
an empty net goal to Alexander Avtsin giving the ‘Dogs
a 2-0 victory. Following Wednesday’s tilt Hamilton
travelled to Abbotsford to take on the Heat in back-to-back
games. In the first match-up Hamilton’s Dustin
Boyd took the opening goal of the game giving them a 1-0 lead.
The advantage didn’t last long as Abbotsford scored
the tying goal, less than a minute later when John
Armstrong scored for the Heat levelling the score at 1-1. To open
up the second period Mathieu Carle notched a power-play
goal handing Hamilton their second lead of the game. Before
the middle frame ended Abbotsford was able to tie the game
at two. Drew MacIntyre made 41 saves but it was not enough
to seal a victory for the ‘Dogs as they lost the
contest 3-2 as the Heat scored a goal with 45 seconds remaining
in the game. In the second of back-to-back games versus
Abbotsford the ‘Dogs were held off the scoresheet.
Greg Nemisz and Gaelan Patterson scored for the Heat giving
them a 2-0 victory over Hamilton.

two more goals before the period had ended, tying the game

BULLDOGS PLAY THREE GAMES IN THREE
NIGHTS THIS WEEK INCLUDING A GAME AT BELL CENTRE IN MONTREAL! |
The
Hamilton Bulldogs (American Hockey League affiliate of
the Montreal
Canadiens) will battle
against three different opponents this week playing back-to-back-to-back
games this weekend. The ‘Dogs will make their way to
the Bell Centre in Montreal on Friday, February 25th for
a 7:30 P.M. start time versus the Adirondack Phantoms (AHL
affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers). The game will be the
second of two match-ups the Bulldogs play in Montreal this
season. Following Friday’s game Hamilton will go
up against the Syracuse Crunch (AHL affiliate of the Anaheim
Ducks). The Bulldogs and Crunch will meet the following
night
on Saturday, February 26th for a 7:30 P.M. puck drop in
Syracuse. The third game in as many nights will be a tilt
against the
Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red
Wings). Hamilton will host this match-up as both teams
will meet
at Copps Coliseum on Sunday, February 27th for a 4:00 P.M.
game.
Hamilton’s Mathieu
Carle opened up the scoring in
the Bulldogs first game of the week versus the Grand Rapids
Griffins. He scored on the power-play midway through the
first, but it wasn’t long before the Griffins levelled
the scoring. Jamie Johnson notched a goal
four minutes and 20 seconds later to even the score at
1-1. Aaron
Palushaj followed suit, as he quickly added a goal and gained the
lead back for the Bulldogs just before the first period
ended. The second and third stanzas saw the Griffins take
a commanding lead, scoring once in the middle frame and
three times in the final period. The Bulldogs’ Frederic
St. Denis added another goal before the game concluded
making the final 5-3 for the Griffs. The Dogs’ following
match-up saw them snap a five game losing-streak against
their North Division rivals, the Toronto Marlies. Andreas
Engqvist potted his seventh of the season giving the Bulldogs
a 1-0 lead heading into the second. Aaron Palushaj added
a goal in the middle frame giving him his second consecutive
fixture with a tally. Toronto fought back getting goals
from John Mitchell who scored seconds after Palushaj and
Ryan Hamilton added another to even the score at 2-2. Danny
Richmond gave the Marlies their first lead of the game
at 2:57 of the final period. Hamilton battled back to regain
the lead and win the contest 4-3 with goals from Hunter
Bishop and Ben Maxwell. The Bulldogs took on a rare opponent
in the San Antonio Rampage on Saturday, February 19th. Bracken
Kearns gave the Rampage the first lead of the game
scoring on the power-play at 6:16 in the first. Following
that goal Hamilton responded with three consecutive markers,
two in the first from Ryan Russell and Ben
Maxwell and
once in the third from Andreas Engqvist. The Bulldogs went
on to win the match-up 3-1 making it their second consecutive
win. The ‘Dogs finished the week dropping a 4-3 game
to the Rochester Americans in a shootout. Gabriel
Dumont, Jimmy Bonneau and St. Denis gave Hamilton a 3-2 lead but
Joe Callahan tied the game 3-3 late in the third period.
With neither team able to score in overtime, the game went
into a shootout. Rochester goalie Tyler Plante stopped
all four Hamilton shooters while Bill Thomas and Mark
Cullen scored for the Americans to win the game.

BULLDOGS PLAY THREE DIFFERENT OPPONENTS
IN THREE GAMES THIS WEEK! |
The
Hamilton Bulldogs (American Hockey League affiliate of
the Montreal
Canadiens) will battle
against three different opponents this week, starting in
Grand Rapids versus the Griffins (AHL affiliate of the
Detroit Red Wings). The ‘Dogs will make their way to Michigan
on Wednesday, February 16th for a 7:00 P.M. game. Following
Wednesday’s game Hamilton will battle in back-to-back
match-ups beginning with another North Division rival, the
Toronto Marlies (AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs).
Hamilton’s tilt versus Toronto will be at Ricoh Coliseum
at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, February 18th. The second of back-to-back
games will be at home versus a rare visitor, the San Antonio
Rampage (AHL affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes). The Rampage
will visit the Dog Pound on Saturday, February 19th for
a 4:00 P.M. game at Copps Coliseum. Hamilton’s
first game of the week was against North Division rival,
the Abbotsford Heat. Just three minutes
and 39 seconds into the game Abbotsford took a 2-0 lead
with goals from Ryan Stone and John Armstrong.
Going into the second frame the score was 3-1 for Abbotsford,
with
Aaron Palushaj netting the lone goal for
the ‘Dogs
in the first period. The Bulldogs came within one in the
second with a goal from Andrew Conboy,
but it proved to be too little as Abbotsford ended with
a victory over the ‘Dogs
winning 4-3. Hamilton’s second game of the week came
against the Connecticut Whale on Friday, February 11th.
Connecticut took the lead just 10 seconds into the first
period with a goal by Dale Weise. The ‘Dogs
responded a minute and 23 seconds later as St. Denis recorded
his second goal of the season. With the game tied at one
it
wasn’t long before Connecticut regained the lead.
Just one minute and 50 seconds after St. Denis’ equalizing
goal Brodie Dupont scored for the Whale giving them a 2-1
advantage. Ryan Russell tied the game
for the ‘Dogs
in the third frame, but with just over a minute left in
the contest Devin DiDiomete scored for
the Whale giving them a 3-2 win. Hamilton’s final game of the week
came against the Rochester Americans. The tilt saw the ‘Dogs
struggle to gain a lead the entire contest. Rochester opened
the scoring in the first period with a goal from Jeff
LoVecchio. Rochester added another goal in the second stanza while
Mathieu Carle and Kyle Klubertanz added
the only goals for the Bulldogs in the second period to
bring the game
to a 2-2 tied heading into the third period. Rochester’s
Kenndal McArdle netted the game-winning goal in the third
to seal a 3-2 victory over the ‘Dogs.

HOST TWO GAMES AT COPPS COLISEUM THIS WEEK!
|
The
Hamilton Bulldogs (American Hockey League affiliate of
the Montreal
Canadiens) will return
to Copps Coliseum this week after a four-game road trip.
The first of two upcoming match-ups will be fought against
the Lake Erie Monsters (AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche)
when they travel to Hamilton on Wednesday, January 12th
for a 7:00 p.m. game. The Syracuse Crunch (AHL affiliate
of the
Anaheim Ducks) will be the second and final opponent this
week for the Bulldogs. The ‘Dogs will take-on the

Their first road game last
week was in Grand Rapids, Michigan to take on the Griffins.
Hamilton opened the scoring in
the first with a goal by J.T. Wyman. Before the first period
concluded Grand Rapids evened the game with a marker netted
by Logan Pyett. Grand Rapids carried their momentum into
the second frame as Greg Amadio gave them their first lead
of the game. Hamilton made it a close encounter by tying
the score seven minutes into the third as Mathieu
Carle got the equalizer. The Griffins scored less than a minute
and a half after Carle to take the lead and secure a 3-2
win at home against the ‘Dogs. The Bulldogs bounced
back with a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Wolves on Saturday,
January 8th. Dustin Boyd netted a shorthanded goal to start
the scoring, while J.T. Wyman scored two and Kyle
Klubertanz potted one. Hamilton’s final stop for the week was
in Milwaukee to take on the Admirals. Just three minutes
into the game J.T. Wyman netted a goal to give the ‘Dogs
a 1-0 lead. The Admirals came back scoring two goals, one
by Linus Klasen and the other from Ryan
Thang. Midway through
the second stanza the Admirals increased their lead with
Blake Geoffrion adding a goal. J.T. Wyman scored less than
a minute after Geoffrion, but Wyman’s second of the
